Nyctanthes arbor-tristis, commonly known as "Night-flowering Jasmine" or "Sad Tree," holds a unique place in the Sri Lankan natural and cultural landscape. Locally referred to as "Sevanthi" or "Sadachara," this small, flowering tree is admired for its delicate, fragrant flowers which bloom at night and fall off by morning—giving rise to its poetic name and mystical aura.
